Dry hip roof system. Dry hip systems eliminate the need for mortar and provide a more secure and maintenance free hip detail. I ve also allowed for the installation of hip support trays and any necessary tile clips used which are often purchased in a separate kit at extra cost for the installer. The one key difference is when curved or profiled tiles are used the dry hip system will rely on some form of tray to provide support along the length of the hip line. The systems follow a similar design to dry ridge systems.
It is suitable for use with all of the russell smooth finish interlocking tile range and usable on roof slopes up to a maximum of 45 pitch and where the hip eaves intersections is 90 on plan. With very high resistance to storm damage the dry hip system has exceptional durability and is designed to last the lifetime of the roof. The average price for fitting a dry ridge system to a roof with hip ridges costs again around 50 to 65 per metre. There is only a small difference between the dry ridge system above and a dry hip ridge system.
What is dry hip system. Hip tiles are secured to the appropriate size hip batten using stainless steel wood screws which give exceptional resistance to wind uplift. Hip ridges usually cover an external junction between two sloping sides of a roof and these are usually seen on roofs with 3 sides or more and at least one of those sides is usually in a triangular shape.
